Teacher Training
Part Time 200hr Yoga Teacher Training on Maui
Sept 5th 2019 - Feb 23rd 2020

A 4 week immersive training is a highly effective and transformational way of taking your yoga practice to the next level but it can be logistically, physically, and financially challenging to take so much time away from work and family to make your dream a reality.

But as we know from our asana practice, going slower and giving ourselves time to learn, understand, reflect and integrate our experiences can be just as, if not more, effective in going deeper. This is one of the real benefits of a part time training, while addressing some of the challenges mentioned above.

This program, which runs over 6 months, is carefully designed to meet the 200 hours required by Yoga Alliance for you to be certified and register as 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200).

You will leave this training with a solid understanding of how to cultivate a personal practice and be able to move authentically and confidently into the role of Yoga Teacher, laying the foundation for a highly rewarding career in the health and wellness field.

This training will be held at Maha Yoga, in our beautiful studio right in the heart of Paia on Maui’s famous North Shore.  Our studio is full equipped with blankets, bolsters, straps, chairs, blocks, sandbags – all the tools of transformation we need to go deeply into the practice in a way that is safe, healing and empowering.

Over the course of the training there will be an additional 20 “Non contact” hours which will include some reading, handing in a few small assignments and most importantly, observing some of Karin’s public classes.  This is an amazing opportunity to develop the skill of observation, crucial to teaching well, but also provides immense insight into how bodies, including your own, move in an asana practice.  All this is designed to deepen your understanding and application of what we explored in our classes and weekend workshops.

The final week of the training is where you will step more confidently into the “seat of the teacher” as you guide your fellow students through a full practice (practicum hours), showing your understanding and application of all you have learnt over the months.  Although this class is counted as your designated practicum hours you will actually begin “teaching” and guiding your fellows students after the first 8 weeks of the training!  You will be required to present your Sequence (Vinyasa Krama) prior to your practicum to Karin for initial feedback and guidance.  Each practicum session will be recorded for you and will be followed with a review session by your peers and Karin, providing invaluable insight for everyone involved  into how to refine and enhance our teaching skills.  This will include subjects such as effective sequencing, cultivating your teaching voice, the use of precise, appropriate and inclusive language, giving adjustments, the use of props and variations, sharing of Yogic philosophy and creating an inviting, respectful and inspiring class environment.  Even should you not wish to start teaching immediately after you have finished the course I have found that teaching others is a highly effective way of helping you to retain all the information and experiences you received over the months. Guiding others through the practice also cultivates observational skills, confidence in speaking publicly and in leading groups.  These are skills we can take into any aspect of our work and lives!

The last of the weekend workshops will cover the  “Business of Teaching Yoga”  where we use vision boards, coaching exercises and group discussions to explore and clarify our personal and teaching values, life vision, and goals.  We will explore the Role of the Yoga Teacher today and how to present an authentic and professional image through various social media and online platforms.
