Maui Wellness Retreat
September 21-28th 2019
Join Nora Day and Karin Kuhn on magical Maui for an unforgettable week that will leave you relaxed, refreshed and refueled of body, mind and spirit!

This retreat offers you a wonderful opportunity to spend time with two yoginis who have dedicated their lives to the practice and study of yoga and the yogic lifestyle that supports health, wellbeing and inspired living! We look forward to having you join us!

THIS TRIP IS FOR YOU IF:

  • You’ve always dreamed of going to Maui – or have been before and just need an excuse to go back because you loved it so much!
  • You love Yoga!!!  and would like to spend time with a small group of other yoga lovers while studying with 2 highly experienced teachers to deepen your practice in a breathtaking setting!
  • You are looking forward to a break from the busyness of life to enjoy the slower pace of the islands that give you some time to recharge your body, mind and soul with just the right mix of Yoga time, down time and play time!
  • You need a yogic infusion and are yearning for a big dose of inspiration in your life!

For 8 days and 7 nights we will be gathering at our beautiful Retreat House, right on the ocean, on the famous “North Shore” of Maui.  Your day will include 2 yoga classes – a morning session with Nora and an evening Yin class with Karin on the lawn overlooking the ocean.  Each day we will gather on the deck by the pool and  enjoy delicious, freshly made and specially prepared, raw, vegan lunches and dinners.  Each evening, before dinner you will hear fun and informative talks and presentations on living the Yogic Lifestyle that will inspire your daily life!

Free Time is an important part of “Me Time”.  Early mornings on Maui are often the nicest time of the day. Before the sun gets too hot, or the wind comes up it offers you the opportunity to stroll the beach, take in a leisurely breakfast, do some morning shopping in Pa’ia before the crowds or just to simply sleep in a bit longer.  Paia has some beautiful beaches, namely Ku’au Beach Park, Baldwin Beach Park, Paia Bay and the famous Ho’okipa where you can watch windsurfers and kite boarders riding the waves!

After lunch you can relax by the pool or go for one of the lovely hikes in Iao Valley, the Bamboo Forest or at Twin Falls.  Taking a leisurely drive up Baldwin Avenue to Makawao Town will offer you amazing views of the Valley Isle and a chance to spend time in this cute, artist, “cowboy” town. Heading out of Paia, just 30 minutes away, you can visit the bustling strip of Kihei on the South Side with lots of beaches, shops and restaurants.

Although we love the North Shore the whole of Maui is a treat to be explored so on Wednesday we give you the whole afternoon and evening off so that you have more time to travel just a little further and take in a sunset on top of the Volcano, or a boat cruise,  or perhaps a special dinner in Lahaina or Wailea overlooking the ocean.  We will offer you lots more suggestions so that you can get the most out of your time on Maui and soak in the spirit of Aloha!

And somewhere in between all this don’t forget to schedule your 1.15hr massage/ acupuncture/ shiatsu/Ayurvedic Nutritional consultation!

During your free time you can also schedule your  massage/ Shiatsu/ acupunture session or Ayurvedic Nutritional consultation which has been included in the cost of the retreat.

FAQ

  • Should you be joining us from outside the United States then first step is making sure you have a valid passport with at least 6 months before expiration date.  If you already have a US Holiday Visa you will not need an additional one for Hawaii.

  • If an illness, accident, or other unforeseen circumstances forces you to cancel or interrupt your travel plans, you face two potentially major financial losses—money invested in nonrefundable pre-payments and flights as well as medical expenses that in many instances may not be covered by health insurance. Travel insurance can be relatively inexpensive, especially when you consider how much you could lose if something goes wrong before or during your trip.  There are many companies that supply travel insurance, you may want to shop around.

  • You will need to fly into Kahului Airport.  We suggest arriving by lunch time. The check in time for Maui Winds is 3pm (check out is at 10am on Saturday September 28thth)

You can either hire a car from the airport or arrange a ride with Lyft or Uber. We do suggest that you do hire your own car as there will be time during the day to explore the island on your own.

Paia Town, our retreat house and accommodation house of Maui Winds is 20 minutes from the airport

  • Maui is very safe but it is always advisable to travel with your credit card so that you do not have to carry too much cash on you at any particular time. Remember to notify your bank before leaving that you will be travelling!

Maui has a well established banking system that will allow for foreign currency exchange inside the bank and at airports (you will need proof of identity). You can always change out some currency at the airport on arrival so that you have some initial cash on you for your taxis, tips, first day expenditures.

  • September on Maui is one of our hotter months.  The average temperature is around 75- 80 Fahrenheit.  Sunrise is around 5.30am and sunset around 7pm.

  • This is not a yoga bootcamp!  If you are a regular Yoga practitioner you will be fine.  Should you be new to the practice or have any old or new injuries please inform Karin beforehand.  And always get clearance from your doctor. We will make the practices as inclusive as possible at all times! The morning practice will be workshop style, but Maha Yoga is well equipped with all props and you will be offered variations and modifications to suit your needs. Our evening Yin practice is suitable for all levels and we will get to enjoy some guided pranayama and meditation.

You can make this retreat as active or relaxing as you want in your free time.  There are stronger hikes to do, or shorter more gentle ones.  You can hire bikes and go cycling or relax by the pool!

If you have any health concerns please check with your doctor and notify Karin well in advance of the retreat.

  • This is YOUR TIME! Nothing is compulsory!  But please note that should you choose not to join us for a yoga class, lunch/dinner or presentation or to make use of your complementary massage/acupuncture/ayurvedic consult you will NOT be refunded in part or full. But we truly believe that there would be no reason for not wanting to spend the day with our group of awesome yogi travelers!

  • Breakfast is up to you! All refreshments between lunch and dinner are on your own tab, as is any alcohol.

Lunch and dinner will be provided as well as a farewell breakfast on te last day.  There will be light non alcoholic refreshments at lunch and dinner. Please note that lunch and dinner will be raw, vegan meals.  This will offer your digestive system a chance to take a well needed break.

If you have any dietary allergies please let us know as soon as you pay your deposit.

  • The rooms in Maui Winds are equipped with ceiling fans, AC, linens and wireless internet.

There is cable TV in both upstairs and downstairs lounges.

There is a washer/dryer in the house as well.

You will need to bring your own toiletries.

Should you wish to purchase some refreshments and any breakfast/snack food items there is a large shared refrigerator in the kitchen.

  • Bring suitable yoga attire for our morning practice and something a little warmer for our early morning beach meditation. Yoga mats and props will be provided.

We will go straight from the Yoga Studio back to the Retreat House for lunch so you may want to bring a change of clothes and swimming attire with you. Maui Winds is a short 5 minute walk away but and should you wish you could return there before meeting back at the Retreat House for lunch.

You will see that most activities are pretty laid back – lots of time outside walking, sightseeing, on the beach and being in nature.

When we are out and about during the day you will need comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, beach towel, swimsuit, etc.

Eating out at most restaurants in Maui is a laid back affair but if you are enjoying a dinner out we suggest men wear a sleeved shirt.  Some Establishments will not let you in with slippas!

If the wind comes up at night it may be a little cooler so a light jacket and a pair of relaxed pants/longer dress are always a safe bet.

If you are going to go up the Volcano you will need a pair of warm pants and a jacket, especially if you are choosing to go to watch the sunset!

Maui is a photographers dream so a camera is a must!!! Remember to bring all your chargers! And extra batteries! You don’t want to go flat mid shot!! If visiting from outside the US, remember to bring your international adaptors so that you can charge your phones, cameras, laptops etc.

  • In urban areas tap water is usually of high quality and safe to drink. It’s quite safe to have ice in drinks and to eat salads. To be on the safe side avoid,  drinking water from streams and rivers, especially in areas where there is human habitation. But if you encounter an unpolluted mountain steam, a drink should be most refreshing.  Where possible use your own water bottle – throw away plastic bottles are so not cool!!!!

  • Should you wish to extend your stay (or arrive earlier) to explore other parts of the islands there are many great travel companies to advise you!

  • Maui has a well-developed healthcare system. There are public hospitals and emergency treatment centers. But be sure to top up on medical insurance before leaving home. Well-qualified doctors, dentists and other specialists can be found in the main centers but you will have to make an appointment to see one, unless it’s an emergency and that can get expensive as you may end up at the hospital.

Personal medication: There are pharmacies all around the island and many everyday medications, such as painkillers, are available over the counter.

If you have a specific medical condition, it’s wise to carry the relevant doctor’s prescription with you. In the event of you losing your medication, a qualified pharmacist should be able to source a replacement, even if the trade name differs in the United States.

  • Maui is safe but like anything done outdoors please always take care if you are going for a hike, or even a short walk.

Let others know where you are going

Take your cell phone and make sure it is charged

Take a full bottle of water and a light jacket.

Wear proper shoes.  Some of the walks are on volcanic rock which can cut through your slippas in short order!

Always wear a hat and a good sunscreen.  The sun is strong on Maui and heat stroke could ruin your holiday!

Leave valuables locked out of sight in your car and keep your keys on you and and carry a map in case you should get lost.

If you’re in doubt about a place you wish to visit speak to us first!!!

Drive slowly and carefully.  The roads on Maui are narrow and winding!  There are often cyclists and runners and many properties are open to the road leaving pets free to run across the road!

Wear your seatbelt.  Drinking and driving is taken very seriously in the US so be warned!
